The physics department was established in 2010 with the B.Sc. program. The department was established with the aim of providing quality education to students coming from remote hill areas with diverse socio-economic backgrounds. Dr. Birendra Singh started the department in the year 2018. At present Dr. Tara Bhatt is the head of the department. Every effort is made in the department to cater to the need of students. There is a central library where there are sufficient books of physics. The department has a well-equipped laboratory with a good number of instruments for undergraduate classes. The department organizes various extracurricular activities for the students.
