The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) cell is an autonomous body established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to assess and accredit institutions of higher education in India. The cell is responsible for conducting a peer review of the college or university, evaluating its performance based on a set of predefined criteria, and assigning an accreditation grade. The grade is based on the overall performance of the institution in areas such as curriculum, teaching-learning, research, infrastructure, and governance. The NAAC cell plays a critical role in promoting quality and excellence in higher education by providing a mechanism for self-evaluation and peer evaluation of institutions. The accreditation grade assigned by the NAAC is valid for a period of 5 years and is widely considered as a benchmark of the quality of higher education institution.
